Surf’s Up in Montreal on the standing wave in the Saint-Lawrence River!

Here I was, considering that the river’s h2o degree was much too low, I didn’t even bother going to glance at our wave for two weeks. A person fantastic early morning I made the decision to go get a glimpse in scenario I was completely wrong and this is what I saw.
Moi qui croyais que le niveau d’eau était trop bas pour faire du surf, j’ai même pas essayer d’aller voir la vague en deux semaines. On bon matin je suis aller me promener dans ce coin. Je M’attendais avoir quelques surfers tenté de prendre la vague à la corde. Je m’était trompé: La vague est au rendez-vous et le surf aussi.

from the thumb I thought it was an Orca coming up on the beach to catch a seal. Can’t get the photo to download, but would love to see this wave….will try to come back later.

I’m glad you took the time to view the picture. I can see how this looked like an Orca when small.
There are several known places on the St-Lawrence around Montreal where rocks at the bottom of the water create depressions that cause waves. Those waves vary in sizes and strength but only some of them are surf able.
This Habitat ’67 wave is close to the shore. The LaSalle Wave is farther out and you need to be towed in by a Seadoo. There’s a wave on the Chambly River that’s only strong enough to be ridden in April-may but you have to catch it with the help of a rope.
The water flows in the opposite direction of an ocean wave and the main difference is that they’re harder to catch in the river than in the ocean and of course, that wave doesn’t die out after a few seconds. I think the world longest surf record is about 1 hour on this treadmill like wave.
