Query by blaine h: The place is there a seriously calm spot to chill and surf?
Wherever that is just laid back and peaceful all the time, and has genuinely great surf. Somewhere that has a genuinely affreux back, and has a good ocean attitude.

Concern by The Matador: What are some excellent newbie surf spots in Southern California?
I’m a starter surfer, I’ve been out about five or six occasions but continue to keep acquiring my butt kicked and I know its mainly because the waves are far too significant and tough for my skill levels. I was just wondering where by some great surf spots for newbies are in Southern California that have preferrable easy rolling waves, as opposed to the huge rough ones I’ve been seeking.

i are not able to identify a unique break, but test a seaside exactly where there is a ton of white h2o and damaged waves as there will be handful of highly developed surfers in these regions. or, test likely to a surf university. most faculties will consider you to a novice location with waves and circumstances that will permit you to discover the basics and choose up on the methods additional promptly.

Blaine old buddy,
Anybody who really surfs, and who really has a place like that, isn’t blabbing it all over the internet. I have my ‘secret spots’ in a laid back place, with cold beers and palm trees, but if I tell you, then it’s OURS, and you tell somebody else, and then it’s THEIRS. Good luck on finding that place, pal.
Torquay, Vic, Australia i surf there every weekend it’s very relaxed and has the surfing sprit.
Just like John said, good unknown secret spots stay SECRET.

Not Manasquan inlet in NJ.
Great wave though.
Santa Cruz, cool cat. down at the flats, all the dope an hookers you can handle
campus point really chill, not many people
depending on what you view as relaxed, Sandspit is really nice on a decent day, the waves are really smooth.
It might be the billabong pro / pipe masters, but Im not exactly sure.
it all depends on the swell of the day. the one at teahupoo and the pipe masters are both great if there is swell around. the big wave competions like the XXL awards get absolutly massive, although its technically not an event just a competition to see who catches the biggest wave of the year regardless of the location
Pipe Masters, US Open, and my favorite the Eddie at Waimea Bay
US Open of Surfing in Huntington Beach.

The Triple Crown Events (Pipe Masters, Billabong Pro, World Cup of Surfing) & The Eddie Aikau Quilsilver at Waimea – best waves and most prestigious. I guess the US Open in Huntington Beach is pretty big, not so much for prestige and wave quality but for the marketability of the surfing industry and the popularity of the sport. Down Under has some great surfing competitions also, we just don’t here about em as much in the U.S.
my opinion—pipe masters..
Dallas, Texas. Kansas. Detroit, Michigan. Are all great spots, but in SoCal you want to check out- Compton, Inglewood, Crenshaw, all South Central. Long Beach and the Bu are all swell places if you want to hang 10.
Oceanside has several beaches that have a small break that is good to learn on.. The pier, Wisconsin St., Cassidy St. and if you can get on the base Camp Del Mar beach is perfect for learning.
In L.A. county there is Long Beach at Belmont , Seal Beach at the pier and breakwall
Really any spot that breaks is a good place to learn. You have to get use to working with what you’ve got for waves because they are seldom the same over and over
if u r just starting, DO NOT go anywhere 2 big, like:
Hunnington, tressels, avalanche at the bay, the point at the bay and the cove, santa barbara by the college
Go to some small places like:
middles at the bay, the cove (in a month-when it dies down), rat beach, torance beach,
ha, how far you wanna travel? theres tons of spots. dont go anywhere like sandspit or anything. out front of SBCC is okay on days. just ride the whitewash if you cant handle it right away
carpinteria is a nice quite place to learn but i learned at ocean beach in sf and stinson. just go to the beach when the waves r ur skill level
if you are a beginner i would recommend san onofre. the waves there are super slow and they rarely get above 4 feet. if you go there make sure you bring a board that is a t least 8 feet long or you wont catch anything. the other cool thing about sano is that if you get bored you can walk to trestles which is bigger and gnarlier.
Hunting beach, newport,
I recommend you before ridin’ waves go on to abc7.com click on weather then surf report check out the waves it’s not exact always but pretty much it’s as close as you can get.
Some places I ‘ve like are Manhattan also the sand isn’t grainyt at all it’s smooth and rarely any rocks ..The beach I experienced rough sand and rocks where Seal Beach and Doheny State Beach in Dana Point.
Manhattan Beach is pretty cool and I see lots of beginners there too. I think every beach has rough and smooth waves from time to time and also mushy waves ya know the ones that break easily they don’t hold up as much.
Good luck and I hope you visit Manhattan!
