A number of wonderful surf photos I located:
Surf Scoter Up Close

Kayaking on Morro Bay permits close seems to be at these knobby-billed Surf Scoters but it is hard to get THIS shut as the birds will dive on becoming approached. If you volunteer at a wildlife rehabilitation center as I do, you have a better chance for shots like this. This male is in a big tub of water recuperating and awaiting release again into the wild.

I like!
I am still looking for a scoter! Nice shot.
We’d love to have this and other nature photos from your photo stream in the Encyclopedia of Life Images group. Images from this group are harvested regularly to illustrate the pages of the Encyclopedia of Life project. EOL needs images for all 1.9 million known species, and every image helps!
Since your images are already released under a compatible creative commons license, all you have to do to get them harvested is to add a machine tag (taxonomy:binomial="Melanitta perspicillata", including the quotes!) and post them to the group.
Let me know if you have any questions.
