Issue by : How challenging is it to understand to surf?
I’m likely to be likely to SoCal rather shortly, and I wished to study to surf. SoCal is where by I was born and where by I expended my 1st several decades, I’m energized to go back, and I want to study to surf. If any person has any individual practical experience with whether or not it’s uncomplicated to study the fundamentals (inside of a reasonable time) that’d be beneficial. Many thanks for your solutions.

Crashing surf at the lighthouse.
Not that hard but with proper training and keeping at it you gain skills.
A lot is going to depend on what free time you have. If you are a kid who doesn’t have to work or have many responsibilities, i see no reason why you can’t pick it up as long as you put in the time.
My experience of my adult friends learning to surf from scratch is not so good. Simply because they don’t have the time. In my opinion, surfing more than any other sport needs constant practice because the conditions and movements you’ll make will never be exactly replicated from one wave to the next.
Dealing with these variables will come naturally with time, but time spent in the water and learning how the breaks you’re surfing work will be the key to how your learning curve will be.
give it a long day. its not hard, try seal beach. Steady small waves with a good RENTED longboard would be a good idea. Dont buy any surf gear until you like it would be a good idea.
Yes listen to Nick. Don’t invest until you know that surfing is right for you. Once you get the feel of surfing and if you like it, most surf shops sell boards and if you can get a good used one, it’ll work out. My 1st board was used and it has so many dings in it, I’m surprised it still floats.
It’s not easy and it only comes with practice. I’m 30 y/o and I have kids; one of which is a new born so I have no time anymore. But with constant practice, you’ll eventually get there.
This year the Billabong XXL Global Big Wave Awards, in the Monster Paddle category for the biggest wave caught without the help of a jet ski was won by Diego Medina for a massive gray wall caught off the Punta Lobos point in Pichilemu. http://www.billabongxxl.com/awards/#
Pichilemu is a quiet small town, about 3 hours from Santiago with very good waves. The only problem is that water is quite cold. http://www.pichilemu.cl/

You can also go to Arica (playa Las Machas) or Iquique, in the north, where the water is warmer. http://www.surfchile.cl/surfchile.php http://www.surfersparadise.cl/links.html

Maybe you can check Lonely Planet or similar for more information.
definately ARICA
In Ecuador, you have to go to Montanita. That’s where every surfer goes.
In Chile, go to Pichilemu.
I’ve never been in Peru, so I can’t really tell.
