I’m obtaining a incredibly tough time obtaining aquarium decorations that are protected for tanks that are surf themed. I do have a palm tree, but I won’t be able to uncover a surf board or a hula lady.

Query by Molly D: What type of motor vehicle surf rack ought to I be looking for?
I have a 9’ 2 ” board, an SUV with top rack bar, and I’m not sure what style of surf rack I should acquire. I want some thing that fits the bars already on my car or truck, like the soft racks, but I surf down the coast and should drive on a highway to get there. I’ve heard difficult racks are necessary for highway speeds, is this legitimate? I don’t want my new board to fly off my motor vehicle, but I also don’t want some thing long term or high priced.

If you currently have luggage racks, you can go to practically any surf shop and tell them you want pads/straps for your racks. The pads fasten to the bar w/ velcro & tie cords so if you tie them carefully they can be eliminated as necessary.

Decorations change all the time – I don’t know that I’ve seen that much surf-themed decor, most is for a completely underwater theme.
I took a look through a few sites I use and came up with a turtle and crab on a boogie board: http://www.thatpetplace.com/pet/group/15600/product.web
I found a few other items, but if they would be aquarium-safe is questionable. It might give you some ideas of alternative places to look, though:
hula girl cake decorations: http://cgi.ebay.com/Hawaiian-Hula-Girl-Cake-Decorations-15-pieces_W0QQitemZ320106944975QQihZ011QQcategoryZ2004QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem – paint may not be aquarium safe
hula ornaments: http://www.offthedeepend.com/c-82-hula-dolls-and-nodders.aspx – paint may not be aquarium safe, those that move (metal springs, like bobble-head dolls) the metal will corrode and break, paint may not be safe for aquaria
I have a Chevy Suburban, and I drive thousands of miles a year with “Rac Rolls

In fact, my present set is getting a bit old, and I may get some new ones this summer, although, I have been driving the I-95 corridor for over three years with this set.
I have stacked it to the limit (three boards in bags for me) and never had a problem. I do use a long bungee cord as a safety, but it has never been needed. Last trip I carried a 9’4″ and two 7’8″s.
Ask at the surf shop.
